Saint John – There was not a lot to report as far as art prices go at Tim Isaac’s March 28 auction of antiques and fine art. A modest selection of paintings primarily by local Maritime artists was highlighted with a bid of $1700 for a John C. Miles canvas of a Lady Gathering Daisies, 17.5” x 20”.

Fisherman’s Cove was the title of a Mabel Day canvas, 20” x 24” that fetched $1600, while a Fred Ross ink wash of The Embrace, 11” x 21”, picked up a bid of $1200. Tom Forrestall’s At the Wharf, a 14.5” x 19.5” watercolour fetched $1500 and Joseph Purcell’s watercolour of a Nova Scotia landscape realized $850, slightly better than the $800 bid for a mixed media of The Lovers by Fred Ross.
