Biography of MYFANWY PAVELIC

PAVELIC, Myfawny (née Spencer)  RCA, OC (1916-2007). Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Pavelic is a self-taught artist. Working in oil, pastel, acrylic, charcoal, and pencil, she is best known for her portraits, but she also paints landscape, figures and abstracts. Since 1968, she has also worked with tissue paper collages. She lived in New York City in 1944-1950 and 1958-1970. She is a member of the Limners in Victoria, and received an honorary doctorate form the University of Victoria. She married Nikola Pavelic in 1948. She held solo exhibitions of her work at the AGGV in 1976, and at the BAG in 1978. Her work is in the collections of the NGC and Tate Gallery, London, England.
