Biography of ALEXANDER SUMMERS SUTHERLAND
SUTHERLAND, Alexander Summers FCA, MSA (1909-1974). Born in Dundee, Scotland, Sutherland came to Canada in 1920, and studied at the Winnipeg School of Art, Winnipeg, Manitoba; and in Blaricum, The Netherlands. He was influenced by the Group of Seven. Working in oil and watercolour, his subjects include landscape, mountains, children playing and buildings. He worked as a professional musician and was active in British Columbia from 1969.
