Biography of GERALD ROACH
Born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Roach studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art, Halifax; and at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Working in oil, his subjects include landscape and still life in an allegorical and surrealist style. He is best known for his paintings of the people of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in roles taken from Biblical history. He has worked as a commercial photographer, designer for CBC Halifax (1960-1964), muralist at Louisbourg, Nova Scotia (1964-1969), and taught at Dawson College, Montreal (1974-1980). He exhibited with the MMFA in 1960. His work is in the collections of the CCAG, MMFA, and NFB.
