Biography of PETER SHOSTAK

Born in Bonnyville, Alberta, Shostak studied art education at the University of Alberta, Edmonton (B. Ed. 1965, M.Ed. 1969). Working in oil and silkscreen, his subjects include memories of his childhood on a prairie farm, especially night scenes in blue and white. His work was influenced by William Kurelek. He wrote and illustrated When Nights Were Long (1982), Saturday Came but Once a Week (1984), and For Our Children (1991). He taught art education at the University of Alberta and the University of Victoria, Victoria, British Columbia (1969-1979) before turning to painting full-time. He continues to live in Victoria.
