Biography of GRAHAM NOBLE NORWELL

NORWELL, Graham Noble  OSA (1901-1967). Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Norwell came to Kingston, Ontario in 1914 and studied art under Arthur Lismer, George Reid, J.W. Beatty and Robert Holmes at the Ontario College of Art (1920); in London; and with Augustus John in Paris. He visited Scotland, England and Italy in 1924. Working in oil and watercolour, he is best known for his Quebec, and specifically Laurentian, landscapes with particular emphasis on winter scenes.. He was active in Ottawa, Ontario (1921-1926), Montreal (1933-1943), and Val-David, Quebec where he died. He exhibited with the RCA in 1921-1943, and the AAM in 1922-1943. His work is in the collections of the AGO, and NGC.
