KOWALLEK, Hele  AFCA  (1951-  ).  Born in Detmold, Germany, Kowallek came to Canada in 1959 and studied at the Vancouver School of Art (1973); at the Academy of Art, Munich (1973-75); and at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia (B.Ed. 1982). Working in oil, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal and pencil, she is best known for her highly realistic images of horses and children. She also paints landscapes and village scenes. She held a solo exhibition of her work at SFU in 1987.
