Biography of KATE ADELINE SMITH HOOLE

SMITH, Kate Adeline BCSA (1878-1945). Born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England, Smith studied at the Southport School of Art, England; and under Frank Calderon, Edwin Noble and William Callow at the Calderon School of Animal Painting, London, England (1906-1907). She came to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1912. Working in oil and watercolour, her subjects include portraits, farm buildings and activities such as milking time, landscape, and animals especially horses, and horse portraits. She married Frank Hoole, and exhibited with the RCA in 1921 and the AAM in 1922.
