Biography of ARTHUR GRESHAM

GRESHAM, Arthur ALC, CPE, CSGA (1891-active 1964). Born in Sheffield, England, Gresham came to Toronto, Ontario in 1911, and studied at the Ontario College of Art. He travelled and painted in Georgian Bay, Ontario and the Bow Lake area, Alberta. He later settled in Victoria, British Columbia (c.1962). Working in oil and watercolour, he painted landscape, portraits and still life. He also worked with photography. His work was influenced by the Group of Seven. He was President of the CSGA. He worked as a Director of the T. Eaton Company of Toronto, a commercial artist in his own business Gresham Studios, and also served on the Board of Directors of the OCA. He exhibited with the RCA between 1923-1953, the AAM in 1928 and 1931, and held a solo exhibition at the AGGV in 1964.
