Biography of JOHN MACGREGOR

MACGREGOR, John (1944- ). Born in Dorking, England, MacGregor came to Canada in 1948. He studied at the Central Technical School of Art, Toronto. Working in wood and metal, he creates sculptural installations. Working in oil, acrylic, silkscreen, tempera, watercolour, pencil, his colourful figurative and non-figurative (from 1981) surreal works explore themes of time. He received several Canada Council awards between 1967-1980, and was the Director of the New School of Art, Toronto (1977-1979). He exhibited at the MMFA in 1970, and had solo exhibitions at the AGGV in 1983 and at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery in 1986. His work is in the collections of the AGO, CCAB, NGC, VAG and WAG.
