Biography of THOREAU MACDONALD

MACDONALD, Thoreau  CGP, CPE (1901-1989). Born near Toronto, Ontario, MacDonald studied under his father J.E.H. MacDonald. Working in linocut, woodcut, wood engraving and silkscreen, he is known for his book illustrations that feature animals, birds, village and farm scenes. He worked mainly in black and white. He founded his own press Woodchuck Press, and was a founding member of the CGP. He exhibited with the RCA in 1938 and 1939, and held a solo exhibition at the AGW in 1974. His work is in the collections of the AGO, MCMC, and NGC.
