Biography of LEONARD (Len) JAMES GIBBS

GIBBS, Leonard (Len) James  NSMA  (1929-  ).  Born in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Gibbs is a self-taught artist who worked as a commercial artist before painting full-time. Working in a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolour, dry brush, pencil, serigraphs and woodcuts, he creates highly realistic genre scenes of figures doing daily tasks e.g. shelling peas, fetching potatoes and cowboys at work. Other subjects include derelict farms and marine scenes. He is active in Alberta, in the interior of British Columbia and on the West Coast. He also produces limited edition lithographs of his work. His work is in the collection of the MAG.
