Collector's Comment:
Born in Ryde, Isle of Wight, England, Kilpin studied at
the Royal College of Art, London, and in Amsterdam, but
is considered to be mainly self-taught. He immigrated to
Montreal in 1906, where he later died. A landscape, figurative
and marine painter, Kilpin's work is sensitive, illustrative
and classically executed in the manner of the great Victorian
school of British artists of his day.
